BBSM Piano Syllabus

 Piano teachers will collaborate with students and parents to establish a strong foundation for piano progress. Consistency is key to developing discipline, so they may create a practice chart or set a phone alarm to ensure regular practice sessions.

Weekly Practive
2-3 days

Level 1

  1. Hand position - Both hands and all fingers stay in the “C position” while playing the entire song. 

  2. Counting (quarter/ half/ dotted half/ whole notes)

  3. C and G Major Scale (Hands separately) 

  4. C and G Major Arpeggio (Hands separately)

  5. Degrees of the scale (intervals 1-4-5) 

  6. Sight read songs with Treble CDDEFG / Bass CBAGF (hands separately and together) 

  7. Play songs with metronome 50-80 bpm

Posture and hand position 

Sit straight at the piano, about 3-6 inches away (depending on the child's size). Keep your elbows at 90 degrees, your wrists curved, your shoulders relaxed, and your           fingertips ready to hit the keys.

Weekly practice 3-4 days

Level 2 

  1.  Hand position - Both hands and all fingers stay in the “C position” while playing the entire song or the notes indicated above the notes in the music. 

  2. Counting (eight/ quarter/ half/ dotted half/ whole notes)

  3. C, G, D major scales ( Hands together) 

  4.  C, G, D Major arpeggio ( Hands together) 

  5. Degrees of the scale (root chords 1-4-5) 

  6. Sight read songs with Treble clef CDDEFG / Bass clef CBAGF (hands separately and together) 

  7.  Dozen a Day finger exercises 7-9 

  8.  Play songs with metronome 40-50 bpm

Posture and hand position 

Sit straight and position yourself 3-6 inches away from the piano, with a 90-degree angle at the elbows. Curve your wrists and drop your fingertips to meet the keys.

Weekly practice 4-5 days

Level 3

  1. Hand position - Keep fingers in position until indicated by numbers over the notes. 

  2.  Counting (eight/ quarter/ half/ dotted half/ whole notes) 

  3.  C, G, D, F, B flat, E flat Major scales & relative minor (Hands together/ 2 octaves) 

  4.  C, G, D,F, B flat, E flat Major arpeggio & relative minor (Hands together 2 octaves) 

  5.  Degrees of the scale (root chords 1-4-5-6) 

  6.  Sight read songs with Treble clef C(1 octave & a half up) /Bass clef Middle C(1 octave and a half down) (hands separate) 

  7. Dozen a Day finger exercises 4-6 & 10-12 

  8.  Play songs with metronome 70-100 bpm

Posture and hand position 

Sit straight about 3-6 inches away from the piano, with elbows at a 90-degree angle, wrists curved, and fingertips dropping to meet the note.

Weekly practice 5-6 days

Level 4

  1.  Hand position - As the music piece indicates. Keep fingers in position until stated otherwise.(notes with no fingering, use the next finger after the written finger #) 

  2.  Counting (sixteenth/eight/quarter/half/dotted half/whole) 

  3.  C, G, D, A, E, F, B flat, E flat, A flat major scales and their relative minor ( Hands together/ 2 octaves) 

  4.  C, G, D, A, E, F, B flat, E flat, A flat Major arpeggio and their relative minor ( Hands together 2 octaves) 

  5.  Degrees of the scale (root All chords) 

  6.  Hanon 1-5 

  7.  Sight read songs with Treble clef C (1 octave & a half up) / Bass clef Middle C (1 octave and a half down) (hands together with a metronome (40-70 bpm)

Sit straight about 3-6 inches from the piano, keeping your elbows at a 90-degree angle. Curve your wrists and drop your fingertips to reach the note.
